Practice and Meet Details

Info

When and where are team practices?

During the season we practice together as a team on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. at Crockett Park (Brentwood, TN). Workouts for the other days will be sent in a weekly email (“on your own workouts” are generally easy runs at a conversational pace), and our athletes are expected to complete these on their own (or connect with teammates to run together). Running only 3 days a week is not sufficient to compete on a competitive running team, reach your full potential, or train consistently to help prevent athletic injuries.

Do the high school and middle school teams practice together?

Both teams meet at the same practice location and will generally have separate workouts but on occasion we might complete the same workout all together.

When is the official season?

Cross Country:

  • June/July - optional pre-season practices (high school only)

  • Late July - official team practices begin

  • Meets - late August through October

Track (only available for 8th-12th graders, all competing at high school meets):

  • January - optional pre-season practices

  • February - official team practices begin

  • Meets - March and April

What meets does the team compete at?

Our meet schedule (as well as practice schedule) is posted on our team calendars. Please check the calendar frequently or sync with your calendar as it is subject to change.

Sovereign Grace competes at various meets in the Greater Nashville area, and our high school travel team occasionally travels to meets in the Southeast. We are a member of the MSCCA (Mid State Cross Country Association) and enjoy competing against private and public schools of various sizes at meets.

Are there time standards to join the team?

Our team is open to any homeschool student in the Middle Tennessee area who is willing to work hard, have a positive attitude, and be a supportive teammate. Since we want our athletes to be prepared at meets, we have time standards for competing in meets or for making our travel team (high school only: traveling with the team and racing in any out-of-town meets). We will provide time trial opportunities throughout the season to reach these benchmarks.

What type of weather do we practice in?

Practices are canceled for thunderstorms, if the temperature is under 20 degrees Fahrenheit, or if the roads to practice are treacherous. We train in all other weather conditions - rain, heat, wind, and occasionally snow - and this helps prepare us for any comparable racing conditions that might occur.

Can I listen to my music during practices or meets?

We ask that all of our athletes avoid using any electronic sound devices while at team practices or meets. We expect our athletes will be cheering on their teammates or listening for instructions.

What track events can I compete in?

Our high school track team competes in the distance events: 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 4x400 relay, and 4x800m relay.
